9×11inAn homage to the block print, El temporal, by the legendary Puerto Rican graphic artist, Rafael Tufiño—Memento mori revisits the tense relationship between Puerto Ricans and hurricanes. As an equalizer between people (whether rich or poor, past or present), hurricanes have transformed our topography and our culture.
This modern rendition not only alludes to El temporal and other earlier works, it also incorporates elements of modern life in Puerto Rico—cars, traffic posts, condominiums, and high rises.
This tropical force is a constant reminder of our mortality as well as our solidarity and resilience.

11x14in Inspired by the pueblo of Aguadilla, el Jardín del Atlántico.
A weary and aging mother caresses her newborn child. She nurtures the creature with love and hope of a better tomorrow. Above them blows Rafael Hernández Colón’s Campanitas de Cristal with their resounding song, and below flows the Ojo de Agua from the Parterre. The artist applies techniques of the great Puerto Rican printers Lorenzo Homar and Rafael Tufiño to create a print that presents iconic images of the historic and cultural center that is his hometown of Aguadilla.

The light streaming in the church windows with stained reds and blues of varying hues has always enthralled me and give only a taste of the beauty in the mystery housed in the halls—a tale of woe and wonder that transforms the heart as well as the mind.
The stained glass of castles and cathedrals evoke deep reflection.
